UK pensioners enjoy retirement with top-notch holidays
With recent research showing that the average person takes 120 holidays during their lifetime, an increasing number of pensioners are spending their retirement travelling round the world.
With no time off work to organise or negotiating with school holidays, senior holidaymakers are an increasing industry in the 21st century. With no restrictions and able to travel during off-peak times, older travellers are enjoying their pick of holidays including; journeying to far-flung places, safaris as well as a more sedentary cruises. And with a wiser, older head specialist safari or cruise travel insurance will have prudently been put in place, providing peace of mind that any mishaps are fully covered.
For those over 65 travel insurance is an absolute essential and for travellers with pre-existing medical conditions it is worth doing some homework, the cheapest quote is not always the best with many having hidden exclusions.
However, medical conditions are not necessarily a barrier to travelling as many people in their later years are discovering. Taking a supply of medication in hand luggage (where airline rules permit) in case of loss of baggage is always a good idea, as is taking along a doctor's letter confirming the reason for the medication, especially when travelling to more exotic locations.
For older holidaymakers planning to enjoy a cruise travel insurance may not seem necessary as a ship carries its own medical crew. However, should the worst happen and hospital treatment be necessary, the cost of being flown off a ship is extortionate and well beyond most travellers' pockets.
Finally, when travelling to destinations further afield, a general MOT at the doctor's before embarking is a good idea. Long flights can take their toll on the body so being given a once-over to identify any problems could make the difference between enjoying the holiday of a lifetime and having to make a claim on an over 65 travel insurance policy.
