Winter holiday at Christmas

Those looking for some winter sun this Christmas will be heading to Tunisia, Morocco and the Canary Islands, with Mexico, Dubai, Kenya and Cuba also on the list of top destinations for Christmas.

With so many heading for the airports, ports and Eurostar this weekend, those of us staying at home in the UK might already be planning things a bit differently for next year.

Not everyone is heading abroad for fun in the sun though - some are taking long haul flights to top ski destinations to make the most of reported heavy snowfall.

Busiest travel day

Apparently Sunday 22nd December will be the busiest day for travel, with Gatwick Airport expecting around 60,000 travellers to fly that day - it's estimated around 2 million people will travel through Gatwick over the festive break.

London's Heathrow Airport is expecting around 3 million travellers throughout December, not all of whom will have been wise enough to take out family travel insurance before they set off.

Traditional dinner on your flight

If you're heading to exotic shores but missing your traditional Christmas dinner, you'd better fly with British Airways, who are offering passengers a traditional turkey dinner and Christmas pudding on Christmas Day flights.

It seems Scotland, New York and the Caribbean are the most popular destinations for British Airways passengers this season, with many heading to Edinburgh to ring in the New Year.

It's thought that January 3rd will see over 100,000 people returning home on a British Airways flight.

Insure your travel for cancellations
