Top 5 sunny destinations to spend your Summer in the UK

If you're looking to escape for a few days to a different part of the UK, you could do worse than choosing one of the top 5 sunny destinations in the UK - perfect for a family break or long weekend away this summer.

Cornwall

Not just for surfing types, Cornwall has always been a hotspot for couples and families thanks to its wealth of attractions, sunny weather and beautiful beaches. Why not grab your surfboard and take to the waves in Newquay? If that seems a bit too energetic, you could always relax and take in a show at the open-air Minack Theatre, Cornwall's world famous amphitheatre carved into the rock at Porthcurno in Penzance.

Edinburgh

Whilst Scotland isn't known for its sunshine, Edinburgh receives its fair share of the sun and has plenty to entertain all ages no matter what the weather is doing outside! On sunny days, a picnic at Princes Street Gardens is hard to beat. Other great options for sunny days include a spot of sightseeing at Edinburgh castle or an iced coffee on the Royal Mile. If it gets cold and rainy, head for one of the many shows on at the Edinburgh Festival every August.

London

For a city break with a spot of sunshine to boot, London is hard to beat. Definitely not for the crowd-shy, London is packed with tourists year round, but there's plenty for all ages to see and do. Why not enjoy a game of frisbee at Hyde Park, visit Big Ben, take a ride on the London Eye or rent a Boris bike and explore the city the healthy way! An open-top bus tour is another great way to see all the attractions.

Shere

The pretty village of Shere in Surrey is probably best known as the location for the film, 'The Holiday' starring Kate Winslet and Jude Law. With the William Bray restaurant serving delicious cuisine made from fresh locally sourced ingredients and a couple of cosy watering holes to choose from, this is a great destination for couples who enjoy outdoor life - there are plenty of walks in the area and it's not far from London!

York

York is a great choice for couples or families looking for a summer city break, whether that's a weekend or longer. The Jorvik Viking Centre is popular with children of all ages and a stroll around the city walls in the sunshine is guaranteed to work up an appetite. Just as well, as York has a tempting array of bars, bistros and fine dining establishments to choose from, so whether you're looking for a quick bite to eat or an a la carte meal for two, there will be something to please!

Whichever destination you choose this summer, make sure you have travel insurance in place to protect you and your family - you really can't afford to be without it, even when travelling in the UK!
