Top 5 resorts for couples in Europe

A romantic holiday for two is what you might have in mind, but finding a suitable resort that is not packed with boozy youngsters or stressed families with screaming children can be a real challenge.

With many packages aimed at flirty holidays for singletons looking for fun, couples looking for a child free getaway or even holidays for senior citizens can sometimes feel forgotten. However, the World Travel Awards – the self-proclaimed holiday equivalent of the Oscars – recently announced its nominees for the 2012 top resorts for couples. Here are five of the leading candidates.

Adam and Eve Hotels - Antalaya, Turkey

With the near guarantee of wonderful weather, couples can enjoy the luxury of this five-star resort. With luxurious accommodation kitted out in pristine white (no place for sticky little hands), couples can relax and enjoy the top notch facilities, which include an on-site spa. A previous winner of the top couples resort from the World Travel Awards.

Regina Hotel - Baglioni, Italy

Located just a stone's throw from the centre of Rome, this sophisticated hotel will appeal to Art Deco lovers and offers an unrivalled view of the city from the top floor. With a fine dining restaurant, concierge, wedding and gourmet packages, this hotel is perfect for couples looking for a classy getaway close to the best shops, bars and sights that Rome has to offer.

Minos Imperial Luxury Beach Resort - Milatos, Crete

Lying just outside a beautiful fishing village, the Imperial offers couples the chance to sample freshly caught seafood in seafront taverns next to crystal clear waters. With accommodation ranging from simple rooms to opulent five-star suites, there is something to suit every pocket.

Anassa - Cyprus

This five-star resort offers a very different kind of accommodation; rather than a traditional hotel, the complex is set on a hillside with classic low-rise buildings arranged around a village square, complete with a Byzantine chapel. With tropical gardens, Mediterranean sunsets and locally sourced produce, this could well feel like your own glimpse into paradise.

Majestic Hotel and Spa - Barcelona, Spain

Rising in the hub of the city, the Majestic certainly does its name justice. With rooms ranging from deluxe right through to penthouse suites, all with access to the spa boutique, guests will feel in the heartbeat of the city whilst still being able to enjoy the serenity and privacy of top class accommodation.

Wherever you decide to go, make sure you pack your couples travel insurance in your suitcase so you can really relax and enjoy the best of what your chosen resort has to offer!
