Teenage angst and how to manage it on family holidays
Keep them entertained
A lot of teenage angst wells up when teenagers are bored and looking for something to do, so keep them busy! If you're staying in a hotel complex or resort near the beach, sign them up for diving or snorkelling lessons, take them down to the beach BBQ or have a game of volleyball on the beach. Make sure there are always activities planned so that they're not lazing around being bored. If you're holidaying in a self-catering apartment, ensure they get involved in activities like picking where the family will eat that night or choosing ingredients for a poolside BBQ.
Keep them connected
Nothing breeds a moody teenager faster than being disconnected from their friends back home. So make sure they've packed their gadgets and the necessary chargers to keep them connected. You may not understand why they want to spend all their time on Facebook whilst lying on the beach, but the main thing is that they're having fun. Gadget insurance with insurefor.com can help to protect the whole family's gadgets whilst you're on holiday, so if their iPhone or Kindle is stolen or damaged, help is at hand!
Keep them feeling free
If your teenager is older, why not encourage them to mingle with other kids their own age at your hotel or resort? Don't be afraid to let them explore the area in small groups, play sports or attend BBQs on the beach. This is a great opportunity for them to meet others and have some time away from you - they'll probably appreciate you much more when they come back at the end of the day for a family meal!
You should always ensure you have family travel insurance in place to protect all members of the family on holiday. From medical emergencies to lost or stolen possessions, cheap family travel insurance with insurefor.com covers the kids for free and takes a weight off your mind if the worst does happen!
