Tailor-made Holiday

If you're heading off on a tailor-made package holiday, you might not have considered taking out travel insurance. You've probably spent hours sourcing flights, the perfect accommodation (whether that's a hotel or a self-catering apartment) and other aspects of your holiday such as organised tours whilst you're abroad. You may even have organised a longer tailor-made break such as a round the world tour or trekking holiday. Yet doesn't it seem odd to you that you've spent all this time thinking about your holiday, but haven't organised one of the most important things of all?

Why get insured

Insurance for your trip is not a luxury, it's a necessity. Whether you're travelling with your entire family, friends or braving it solo, travel insurance will protect you and your belongings should anything go wrong on your trip. When you consider the possibilities for what could happen (nobody likes to think about these things, but it's possible) then it's obvious that insurance is the best way to protect yourself.

Protect your health

If you're travelling in a foreign country, eating street food from local vendors and drinking the local water, sooner or later you're probably going to experience stomach upset. You might get sunstroke from too much time spent on the beach, or be stung by a jellyfish and need medical care. Unlike medical care in the UK, costs for GP care in foreign countries can be extortionate and things get even worse if you need to spend time in hospital. If you become seriously ill, have an accident or are injured on your trip, the last thing you want is to worry about how to pay your hospital fees. If you're injured during a sporting accident, you could have to pay hundreds or even thousands of pounds. If you're travelling in Europe, make sure you also apply for your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which covers you for free or low-cost medical care whilst in the EU.

Protect your belongings

If your baggage is lost or stolen during your holiday, it can be really upsetting, particularly if you have important documents or expensive gadgets packed in your case or bag. By taking out travel insurance to cover you should the worst happen, you can make a claim quickly and receive compensation for your lost or stolen belongings. For those travelling with every gadget under the sun, gadget insurance can be added on to your policy, so whether you're travelling for business or pleasure, you won't need to spend a fortune to replace your gadgets.

There are plenty of other reasons to take out insurance for your next trip, including the cancellation cover most insurance policies will provide you with. Don't forget to plan this vital aspect of your tailor-made package holiday and you're sure to have the trip of a lifetime!
