Protect Your Belongings

Whether you're heading off on a last minute summer-sun holiday with the family or have booked a winter break to an exotic destination, you'll need to make sure you have travel insurance in place to protect your belongings, should the worst happen

Stay Safe in the Sun

Most people think that travel insurance is only to protect you from illness or injury whilst on holiday; in fact, it's also to protect your belongings whilst you're travelling.

It's a good idea to take outtravel and gadget insurance whether you're heading to far flung shores or just to the south of England for a weekend at the seaside.

Single trip travel insurance includes free cover for kids and our gadget insurance policy will protect your belongings.

What's Covered

Most travel insurance policies will cover you for medical costs (for example, if you require treatment by a doctor or hospitalisation during your trip), cancellation/curtailment costs and baggage.

Should your baggage be lost or stolen during your holiday, the full cost of replacing it can be claimed and if you also lose your important documents, such as your passport, this type of cover can be invaluable.

For those who have particularly valuable items with them, such as several gadgets, extra gadget cover can be added to your travel insurance and will cover your tablet, smartphone, video camera, MP3 player and e-reader for a small additional premium.

You should always read the small print to double check exactly what is covered when it comes to gadget insurance - some other insurers will only cover you for theft or loss and not for accidental damage.

Use your Common Sense

Of course, as well as taking out travel insurance, a little bit of common sense goes a long way when you're on holiday. Never leave your bags unattended and if you're going out for the day, take only as much money as you need.

You should split any money carried in your handbag into two, so that if you're the target of pickpockets, you will still have cash. Leaving any extra cash or cards in your hotel safe is a good idea - most rooms will have a small safe and if not there is usually one available at reception for guests to use.

So stay safe this summer with a healthy dose of common sense and adequate travel insurance in place to protect you, your family and your belongings should anything go wrong!
