Golfing in the Costa Blanca

The Costa Blanca, on the eastern side of the Iberian Peninsula, is home to many fine golf courses, including some designed by Severiano Ballesteros, Jack Nicklaus and Jose Maria Olazabal. Whether you enjoy a gentle stroll over flat terrain close to one of the many coastal resorts or a tougher challenge in the foothills of the Sierra de las Aguilas or Sierra Bernia mountains, you're sure to find a golf course to suit your taste and level of ability.

Golf equipment cover

Unfortunately, no matter how well you research the golf courses on the Costa Blanca and plan your golfing holiday, things can still go wrong, which is where cheap "golf travel insurance" comes in. Golf equipment is expensive but, with travel insurance, you can set off safe in the knowledge that you're covered in the event that any of your possessions are delayed, damaged, lost or stolen while you're away. If your golf clubs are delayed in transit, you may need to hire replacements until they arrive at your destination but, if you choose the right policy, you'll be covered for this eventuality, too.

Medical and emergency cover

If you have an accident, or you're taken ill, you could be liable for the cost of medical treatment and repatriation, not to mention non-refundable green fees, if your holiday is curtailed or cancelled. Some 'standard' travel insurance policies may include golf as an activity, and hence any injuries arising from playing golf, but they almost certainly won't include additional cover for golf equipment, so it's worth spending a little time finding a policy that covers everything you need. It's also worth noting that while the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) entitles you to state health care in Spain, under the same conditions as people insured in Spain, it shouldn't be considered an alternative to travel insurance. The EHIC doesn't cover any private healthcare costs, including repatriation, or damaged, lost or stolen property.

Peace of mind

In 2013, the Association of British Insurers warned Spanish holidaymakers that some Spanish hospitals were cashing in on the fact that travellers don't know what medical treatment they're entitled to. In one case, a travel insurer was invoiced for €63,000 by a Spanish hospital, despite a large part of the cost having supposedly been covered by the EHIC. For your peace of mind, golfing travel insurance providers typically provide a 24-hour emergency helpline to assist you in dealing with the Spanish authorities.
