Explore Bonnie Scotland: Pack Your Thermals For A Beautiful Winter Break
It may be cold, wet and wintry at this time of year in Scotland, but it is also one of the most beautiful times of year to visit this stunning country. Provided you pack your thermals, and don't forget your camera, you are guaranteed a winter break to remember in bonnie Scotland. Here are a few of the top sights to see on your travels.
Loch Ness
There is far more to see here than just a glimpse of the world-famous sea monster. This 754-foot deep expanse of water is beautiful all year round and we recommend hopping on a boat trip from Inverness to take in the lake in all its glory. Alternatively, you could always grab your boots and enjoy a hike around the lakeside or visit the ruins of Urquhart Castle, which is perched on the shore. The Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition is the place to head for to find out about the history of 'Nessie' and is a day out that both children and adults will appreciate.
Cairngorms National Park
Those visiting the Scottish Highlands this winter will definitely want to add the Cairngorms National Park to their agenda. The park offers plenty of adventure for outdoors enthusiasts, with over 280km of mountain biking and hiking trails. This is not all − the largest ski centre in the UK is here, there is amazing wildlife to spot, and some of the best white water rafting in the country.
Isle of Skye
There is a reason why the Isle of Skye is the most visited of the Hebrides Islands - it is home to some of the most beautiful landscapes on the west coast. Stunning mountains, rolling moorlands and sandy beaches, plus the feeling of isolation during the winter months, ensure that this is a popular spot with rock climbers and hikers who head for the Cuillin Hills.
Edinburgh
No visit to Scotland is complete without a trip to its historic capital city. A UNESCO world heritage site, there are more listed buildings in Edinburgh than in any other city in Europe. Take a stroll along the rambling Royal Mile, visit Edinburgh Castle or stop off for some haggis and whisky in one of the city's many restaurants. Don't miss the Christmas markets for some last-minute Christmas shopping and a glass of mulled wine! Scotland has something to offer everyone, from rolling countryside and quaint fishing villages to historic cities filled with art and culture. Wrap up warm and enjoy your Scottish break this winter.
