There are plenty of eco-friendly holidays out there to choose from, allowing you to travel responsibly, reduce your carbon footprint and minimise your impact on the environment. These all come without compromising on a fun, relaxing holiday abroad or in the UK, and we've picked five of the best eco-holidays for you to enjoy.

#1. India

It can be tempting to stick to the well-trodden tourist trail when visiting India; however, step off it, even for a second, and you could make a positive impact that could help to alleviate poverty. Eating at family-owned restaurants or staying in homestays helps to boost the local economy, so why not enjoy an adventure in Kerala with Responsible Travel? You will visit a local school of music and dance, enjoy homestay accommodation and have the opportunity to soak up local culture.

#2. Greece

An eco-friendly holiday with Expressions in Greece is a great way to introduce children to marine life. The programme, which can be booked as part of a package holiday, is ideal for children aged 4 to 12 and includes snorkelling, underwater photography and learning about sustainable living, including recycling and solar power.

#3. Cornwall

Why not enjoy a homestay in rural Cornwall? Unique Home Stays offers a range of eco-friendly accommodation choices, including the rustic Firefly cabin near Mawgan Porth. With a natural outdoor pond for swimming, lush garden and dogs welcome, this is the perfect place for a relaxing break in the UK ‒ no flights required.

#4. Morocco

High in the Atlas Mountains, the eco-lodge of Kasbah du Toubkal has a choice of rooms and suites that can be booked through Green Traveller. A hammam and traditional Moroccan food are on offer and the establishment is run by local Berber people. It is even possible to minimise your environmental impact by travelling to the kasbah by public transport ‒ all the way from London by train! There are plenty of local trekking opportunities in the nearby Atlas Mountains.

#5. Normandy, France

Fancy an eco-break in a treehouse? The Perche dans le Perche in Normandy can be booked through Green Traveller and is an eco-lodge perched at the top of a chestnut tree, with views over Le Perche Natural Park. Breakfast is served each morning in a picnic basket delivered to your balcony, and you can reduce your impact on the environment by arriving by public transport. You may never want to come down! We can all do our bit to source sustainable, eco-friendly holidays and reduce our impact on the environment, and hopefully these five eco-holiday suggestions have given you something to think about.
