Cornwall Voted Most Popular
With 75% of Brits choosing to holiday in the UK this summer rather than heading abroad, Cornwall has been voted the most popular UK holiday destination for 2015. A Cornish cottage with a sea view was highlighted as the ideal staycation, but what is it about Cornwall that makes it so popular?
Family-friendly
Cornwall is definitely one of the most ‒ if not the most ‒ child-friendly destinations in the UK, with beautiful blue-flag beaches, sunny weather, child-friendly restaurants, and plenty of indoor and outdoor activities to keep all ages amused. Around a five-hour drive from London, Cornwall is ideal for a weekend break or longer summer holiday. If it is outdoor activities you are looking for, Cornwall is a popular spot for surfers ‒ with over 60 surf schools, you can book lessons whether you are a beginner or more experienced surfer. The Ocean Sport Centre at Carbis Bay, near St Ives, is the perfect place for the kids to try water sports; alternatively, why not head off on an ocean adventure, departing on a boat from Newquay Harbour for a sea safari or a fishing trip?
Rich history
Cornwall has a rich history and those wishing to explore their knowledge could consider staying at the Jamaica Inn on Bodmin Moor, which was immortalised in Daphne du Maurier's tale of pirates and smugglers. Set in a beautiful moorland location, the inn is even said to be home to the odd spirit or two; however, don't let this put you off staying here. Home to an award-winning restaurant and bars, you can enjoy a meal here after a wander around the Smugglers Museum, where you can learn all about the area's fascinating history. No trip to Cornwall is complete without a visit to St Michael's Mount ‒ just make sure you leave enough time to make it from the island back to the mainland at low tide.
Beautiful beaches
Come to Cornwall for the beaches and you won't be disappointed. Buckets and spades, fish and chips and fun in the sun are all on the cards at Cornwall's beaches. It can be hard to choose the best beaches to visit, but we definitely recommend Penhale Sands at Perranporth and Mawgan Porth, just four miles from Newquay, for families. You don't need to go abroad to enjoy a summer holiday this year, as a staycation in Cornwall is perfect for all the family.
