Cheap Travel Insurance is Better than No Insurance Coverage
If you are trying to save money on a holiday, it can be tempting to skimp on your travel insurance, especially if you have never had cause to claim in the past.
However, travelling without insurance goes against advice from the Foreign Office as if the worst happens you could be left with a bill for quite literally tens of thousands of pounds.
Losing your passport or your suitcase, or even your travel money, can be a major inconvenience and a cost which it is handy to have covered by insurance. However, if you fall ill or suffer an injury, don't assume you will have access to free medical treatment.
It is a good idea to take a European Health Insurance Card if you are travelling within the EU, but even then, not all types of treatment will be covered. In addition, any extra expenses such as getting back home or prolonging accommodation abroad will not be paid for.
With an air ambulance back from the East Coast of the US costing as much as £40,000, it's safe to say that most travellers would not be able to afford to simply shell out for the expense. And whilst most people want to remember their holidays, they don't want to spend the rest of their life paying for it.
It is possible to obtain cheap travel cover which doesn't break the bank and whilst it may not be as comprehensive, it will cover the basics.
If you are looking to keep your costs to a minimum, shop around to try and get a better level of cover for the same price, rather than constantly trying to hammer the cost down. Focus on getting a good level of protection for the important things such as medical costs rather than a policy which covers unnecessary extras. You can also increase your excess in order to reduce the premium. Whilst this means you will have to contribute more to a claim, if you end up with costs running into thousands, it will make little difference overall and could reduce your premium significantly.
Cheap travel insurance cover can be a useful addition to any holiday and offers a way of making sure you don't travel without protection.
