We all know the pain of trying to find good food at a train station ‒ for most of us it is a quick burger, sushi or a sandwich snatched as we are waiting for our train. Next time you have some time to spare while waiting for your train, why not dine in style on your travels? We've got five of Europe's best train station restaurants to try, all offering great food, a stunning setting and a memorable experience. Trust us and you will never end up in a fast food restaurant again.

#1. Le Train Blue, Gare de Lyon, Paris

Could this be the most beautiful train station restaurant in the world? We think so. With its stunning chandeliers, frescoes and uber-chic clientele, this is a five-star experience, although the food is pretty reasonably priced. There is a menu of traditional French cuisine and a vast wine list on offer, and even a set menu for €65 (around £47). Just don't miss your train.

#2. Midi Station Brasserie, Brussels

This modern baroque-style brasserie is simply stunning, with its oyster bar, cocktail bar, dance floor and classic menu. Why not dine on smoked salmon with mousseline sauce and then head to the cigar lounge to unwind before your train departs?

#3. Orient Express, Sirkeci Station, Istanbul

Interminably linked to the fictional murder, despite opening in 1890, this classically-styled 1930s restaurant is filled with black and white photos of Agatha Christie. You will find a tempting afternoon tea on the menu and the nearby Orient Express Museum is well worth exploring.

#4. To Treno Sto Rouf, Rouf Station, Athens

Fancy dining out at a train station in a railway carriage? These beautifully-renovated coaches are home to a bar, restaurant and various theatre and music productions. During the summer months the open-air bar on the platform is the perfect place to enjoy a drink before your train leaves. Expect simple, classic food with no frills ‒ this restaurant is all about the setting.

#5. Crystal, Jungfraujoch, Switzerland

Europe's highest railway station, Jungfraujoch, is situated 3,454 metres up the Jungfrau. This contemporary steel and glass construction is home to three restaurants, of which Crystal is by far the swankiest. It has to-die-for views, Swiss fondue and an international a la carte menu on offer, but it is far from cheap ‒ there is even a charge for cutlery.
