5 Ski resorts where the snow is already falling ‒ get your skis ready

The weather has turned pretty cold in the UK since the clocks changed, but we are not quite ready for snow just yet. Where in the world can you head to if you are dying to take to the slopes and enjoy some winter sports?

Whether you are in the mood for skiing or prefer snowboarding, we have found five ski resorts where it is already snowing ‒ get your gear packed and prepare for some fun in the snow.

#1. Big Sky, Montana, US

Already over 40cm of snow has been reported at the top of Lone Peak at Big Sky ski resort, with around 30cm of snow falling mid-mountain. The resort is a popular choice for families and offers skiing lessons for all ages and abilities.

#2. Mammoth Mountain, California, US

You will need to wait a couple more weeks to enjoy a winter sports holiday at Mammoth Mountain, as the ski resort here doesn't open until 11th November; however, the snow has already started falling ‒ snow showers began in mid-September.

#3. Hintertux, Austria

Hintertux is a glacier resort, which means it boasts some of the best conditions for winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding all year round. Lately conditions have been particularly strong, with a base layer of 60cm of snow and an additional 17cm of snow forecast for the coming days.

#4. Zermatt, Switzerland

With reports of 145cm of snow at the summit, it is looking like a fantastic ski season for this popular Swiss resort. More snow is forecast to be on the way, making this is a great choice if you are looking to enjoy a winter sports holiday without hopping on a long-distance flight to the US.

#5. Val d'Isere/Tignes, France

Two of Europe's most popular ski resorts, which form part of the Espace Killy ski area, have already seen their first snowfall of the year; in fact, snow ploughs were out on the Col de I'Iseran last week, which rises almost 1,000 metres above the bustling streets of Val d'Isere.

Whether you stick to European resorts or head a bit further afield this winter, you can grab some amazing deals on winter sports holidays if you book before the ski season is in full swing. Head for one of these resorts, where you are practically guaranteed plenty of snow.
