Whether you are trying to enjoy a more environmentally friendly holiday, don't like flying or are simply counting the pennies, a UK staycation could be the ideal break for 2012.

An increasing number of Brits are opting to stay close to home to enjoy what the UK has to offer rather than forking out a fortune on a foreign break.

Britain has an incredibly rich, diverse heritage, with everything from sandy beaches to snow-capped mountains, meaning that whatever you like to do, there should be something that piques your interest.

The staycation is a relatively new phrase but has quickly gained mass acceptance because of the trend towards holidaying in the UK. Staycation can either mean simply enjoying a break anywhere in Britain or alternatively staying at home and exploring local sights and sounds.

Almost every location in the UK has places to see and things to do locally, but how often do you take the time to investigate the attractions close to your home? When holidaying, most people take advantage of everything the area has to offer and make the most of both the countryside and places to visit.
